I recently received an SMS from CellOne, the mobile service of BSNL that they were offering internet, MMS and GPRS facilities to their prepaid customers also, and one could contact their Call Center facility for that. Having such facility is always an interesting thing. Consequently, I spoke to the BSNL Call Center regarding providing of the Internet facility on the prepaid cellphone phone. The Agent, a Lady was helpful. Firstly she asked which Cell Phone I had and whether that was GPRS/MMS compatible. On speaking in the affirmative, she explained the procedure. The procedure seemed to be quite simple. One needs to have a minimum of Rs 200 value of talktime during registration. The Call Center Agent would register your phone for internet & mms facility at their end. A one time charge of Rs 50 would get deducted. The account would get activated within a period of 48 hours. However the surfing charges seemed to be steep viz Rs 0.10 for every KB of download. Well well!
It seems that I would have to for some more time dispense with the need for such a facility on my cell phone. The reason is that internet is quite addictive, and I would certainly not want to just vaporise my prepaid talktime on surfing the net on the CellPhone.
However one thing for i3pep.org that could be done is to make this website mobile compatible. It would be quite easy thing to do, and also keeping with the times! But how shall I test the thing? Would make the site mobile compliant only when I would acquire such a facility on my cell phone.
