Some Straight Talks

For sometime now I have not kept properly with my discipline. What does discipline entail? I would say the following:

Keeping proper time - no matter what others say. This means various things:

1. Wake up at a regular time
2. Exercise adequately and daily
3. Proper quantity and quality of food at set times - also includes the kind of food
4. Sleep at proper time

There may be various times when one does not feel well, and things do not go in the right way. However it is necessary to keep up with discipline. Many of life’s battles are won with discipline. There is “no proper time” to be on the groove.

Physical wellness also leads to mental well being and mental toughness to face challenges of life.

Mental discipline is directly related to physical well being. If the body is not well, could the mind remain okay? Hardly if ever.

All this also brings me to the point of the goals that one should have in life. To be disciplined is directly related to achievement of life’s goals. There may be many obstacles, and there may be many hindrances - yet the person who finally wins is one who is disciplined and tough. We should not leave lifes battles for them being tough. There is no easy path to success. If success is to be achieved, then discipline and hardwork are its basic prerequisite.

Often one is heard saying - I am in the wrong line, I don’t like what I am doing. Frankly, I have come to understand that there is no “wrong line", but such is only the wrong opinion that people keep harbouring within themselves. Such attitudes are also not a good sign for mental well being. If one is doing a thing, s/he should do give it the best.

All roads have their own success - their destination. It doesn’t really matter what one chooses or stumbles upon (till such path is not morally repugnant). Of-course it is human nature to keep improving, trying to have the better option at hand. This definitely calls for hard work, and the discipline that I had been talking earlier.

Discipline only requires a few simple steps. They are by themselves not difficult to follow. But what is often difficult is to be regular at it. The one who is regular and endures ones own set discipline really goes places.

The moral of the whole thing is that I need to be regular at some of the tasks of discipline. One has to be ones own taskmaster - at times so it seems.

Some “ills” that I really have to leave:

1. Watching TV - it usually dishes out rubbish or the same rubbish news umpteen times in the day.- what use is it if some politician has has issued some political statement? It seems that the television news has lost its purpose. Everything is “breaking news". It seems if the TV channles are not able to put forth sensible news or programmes, one has to put the breaks by oneself. It now really seems that the name “idiot box” was not given wrongly.

2. Internet - for some time now, for developing this website, but also for exploring of it, (and some fun of coding), I have been surfing lot of internet. This is simply not acceptable. From now on, I would only open internet when I have to post something on my website, or to look at something very important. Internet has lots of information, but much of that is simply an unnecessary overload. We have to apply breaks here also. Equally caution is needed for the (unnecessary) urge to check email frequently.

3. Computer - this again has lots of distractions. I would now be using computer only for specific purpose. Not merely to keep it open and do various things, many of which may not really be required. Computer is again a tool that one should use judiciously, else its easy to be dumped with information or be lost in the maze.

I resolve, therefore I am (or shall be…)
